Many people strive to work out more frequently and get physically fit. In fact, getting healthier is usually a common New Year's resolution. Unfortunately, not only do 80% of people not keep their New Year's resolution but only 5% of adults participate in 30 minutes of physical activity every day.

The reason why many people aren't able to stick to their fitness goals is that they set unrealistic expectations for themselves. To help turn your fitness dreams into a reality, here are a few tips you can use that will help make starting your journey toward better health a little bit easier.

Find a gym buddy

People aren't solitary creatures. We thrive in social environments even if sometimes we need our alone time to relax and unwind. It shouldn't come as a surprise, then, that you can't seem to make yourself go to the gym on your own. Consider reaching out to a friend or family member to become a gym buddy. Working out together will not only encourage you to reach your goals but it'll also make fitness more fun.

Take up a workout class

If finding a gym buddy isn't your style, but you still want to be social with your workouts, consider joining a class. Being a part of a small community can help to motivate you because you have other people cheering you on. What's more, you'll be able to see in person that you're not the only one feeling the burn on more extreme moves. That alone can help push you through harder workouts rather than giving up.

Start out small

Another reason why many people often fail with their fitness goals is that their goals are too lofty for a beginner. If you're just learning to write, you wouldn't want to set a goal for yourself to write a novel before you learn the basics. That said, rather than setting a goal to go to the gym every day, consider going to the gym once or twice a week first. The more you add to your gym routine, the bigger the goals you can set for yourself.
